Vets often see this condition in Pit Bulls, Shepherds, Great Danes, and Greyhounds, but any breed can develop happy tail. Usually, large breed dogs with powerful, skinny tails are prone to this condition. In many cases, the tail must be amputated to prevent the dog from banging it on hard surfaces. In the long term, this condition can lead to infection and nerve damage. Happy tail becomes painful for the dog and often frustrating for you to help treat, repair, and manage the condition. The tip of the dog’s tail becomes dried and cracked and starts bleeding because of the repetitive striking of the tail on surfaces. This condition is anything but happy for dogs and pet parents. Many times, this condition occurs when they are wagging their tail, which is why it’s coined happy tail syndrome. Come back another time when everyone, including your dog, has calmed down.Happy tail syndrome is a condition where dogs cause damage to the tip of their tails from striking surfaces. If your dog is causing problems for others, please leave the park. A loud whistle, a pocket air horn, or a blast of water from a water bottle, pan or hose can work. Distract the dogs to divert their attention. You will get bitten – often by your own dog. Never reach into the middle of a dogfight. Anticipating trouble will avoid a lot of problems. Owners should spread out and walk away in different directions while calling their dogs. Dogs in groups will often have problems, including dogfights. Be ready to call your dog off if it becomes too pushy.ĭon’t allow dogs to congregate in large groups. Even a friendly dog may intimidate a more passive dog with its overtures. Know your dog’s habits make sure that its behavior is not threatening to other dogs. Do not permit them to approach strange dogs without the owner’s permission.Īlways keep an eye on your dog. Children under the age of 12 must stay with adults at all times.No glass containers or alcohol allowed in the park.Nothing creates chaos faster than dogs competing for food. No food of any kind is allowed inside the dog park.Female dogs in heat are not allowed in the park.A dog must be removed from the park at the first sign of aggression.Plastic bags in dispensers and disposable cans are available throughout the park. Dog owners must remain with their dogs in the exercise area and keep their dogs in their sight at all times. Do not leave the park gates open, and watch for dogs on the other side when you are entering and/or leaving, so they do not escape.

This is an unsupervised park where dogs are permitted to run free without a leash, and consequently, all people and animals that enter this park do so strictly at their own risk. For information on these happenings, you should contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 95. Various canine events and activities are held throughout the year. The park features ample parking, restroom facilities and pavilions, and is open to the public from 7:00 AM until 6:00 PM November 1st through April 30th, and from 7:00 AM until 8:00 PM from May 1 - October 31, except on Wednesdays when it is open from 12 noon until 6:00 PM. The park is home to the Plantation Canine Unit and features three distinct activity areas: a leash free run and fun area for large dogs, an exercise area ideal for agility training, and an area for smaller dogs (twenty-five pounds or less). Located at Seminole Park in the City of Plantation, the park provides five acres dedicated to man’s best friend. Happy Tails Park is a great place to walk your dog and meet friends.
